Pecan is the Native American nut

Posted: Tuesday, January 7, 2014 4:53 pm

According to legend, President George Washington had wooden teeth, but that didn’t stop him from eating pecans. They say he munched on them all the time.

Not only did Washington enjoy this native nut, but President Thomas Jefferson did as well. They both planted pecan trees in their gardens, Washington in 1775 and Jefferson in 1779. Settlers were also planting pecan trees along the Gulf Coast at this time.
