His plan involves my purpose

We are quickly approaching the new year. Many pastors have been praying for sometime for God’s direction for the church in 2019. But, I hope it’s not just your pastor who is praying about how we can better serve, better worship, study more, pray more, and give more as the calendar turns.

So let me ask you, have you thought about his plan for you and your church this coming year? Have you thought about your purpose inside his plan? You are a part of that plan, and we must have a desire to find out what part we play. But I must say that some things we should do, should just be biblical common sense.

Hear are a few things to think about as you seek God’s will for you, your family, and your church this upcoming year.

1. You are responsible for his plan for you.

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”

2 Corinthians 5:10 Stop looking to blame someone else for what their doing or not doing and begin to take responsibility for yourself. You answer for you.

2. Bear your own

“But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For every man shall bear his own burden.”

Galatians 6:4-5 There are burdens that we can share as verse 2 of this chapter speaks of, but then there are burdens that no one else can share. They are your burdens and responsibilities.

3. Work for the Lord.

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”

Colossians 3:23 When working for the Lord we tend to get frustrated and even angry at times, because we have to deal with different people, ideals, and attitudes. But we must remember who we are working for, and the purpose of our work.

4. Invest in spiritual things.

“For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the spirit shall of the spirit reap life everlasting.”

Galatians 6:8 You see if you are investing in the spiritual, you will not be bothered by the carnal.

This year let us focus on things that make a difference in eternity, and let’s put all of our resources into that.

5. When we see a need, do everything you can personally to meet that need.

In Luke chapter 10 we see the story of the Good Samaritan. There are 3 passersby in this story.

1. One was to busy to help.

2. Another thought about it, but didn’t act upon it.

3. But then there was the one who knew what the Lord would have him do, and just did it.

Who will you be? I’m sure that all of them felt that someone else would come along and help this man. It is your responsibility to see what needs to be done and do it.

6. When we answer our personal calling and responsibilities, God uses us together, to accomplish his purpose in this world, and the next.

As they were rebuilding the wall in Jerusalem, some would build while others would stand guard. They had a job to do, God called them to it, strengthened their hands, and as each one stepped up individually, together God’s work was accomplished.

In 2019, I want each of you to make a promise. A promise to fulfill your own purpose, to strengthen your spiritual walk, to strengthen the church, and to build the kingdom so that Christ is glorified and lifted up through all that we do. Have a blessed day.
