In an emotionally charged courtroom Tuesday morning, Nathan Wilder, of Fort Payne, pleaded guilty to the 2009 murder of his estranged wife, 28-year-old Elizabeth Virginia Wilder, by strangulation.
He was sentenced to serve 25 years in the state penitentiary as part of a plea deal. Wilder will be eligible for parole after serving 15 years. The plea entered Tuesday represents the reversal of an earlier plea by Wilder of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. Wilder was previously scheduled to stand trial next month.
