New birding trail to launch in DeKalb

Little River Canyon National Preserve will serve as the gateway to the newly created Appalachian Highlands Birding Trail.

Thereasa Hulgan, Cherokee County director of tourism, said plans for the Highlands birding trail had been under way for nearly three years. On Saturday, the trail will be launched from the Little River Canyon Center. Little River Canyon National Preserve is Site 48 on the North Alabama Birding Trail.
