Collinsville got in a hole early and came up a little short against Gaston on Friday night.
The Panthers fell to Gaston 35-28 on the road.
Gaston jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter. Dylan Gilchrist hauled in a 27-yard pass from Jordan Douglas and Douglas carried in the 2-point conversion.
Jashun Cammeron scored on a 14-yard run and Blake Thacker added the kick to give Gaston a 15-0 lead after one quarter.
Collinsville got on the board just six seconds into the second quarter when Gerald Blakely scored on a 1-yard run. Isiah Avila added the point after and the Panthers trailed 15-7.
Gaston responded on a 24-yard touchdown pass to Kameron Hawkins from Douglas. A two-point attempt failed, but Gaston led 21-7
Hawkins followed up with a 75-yard touchdown run and Douglas converted the 2-point play for a 29-7 lead.
Collinsville answered the challenge when Blakeley scored on a 8-yard run and Avila added the PAT to cut the lead to 29-14.
Gaston responded with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Cammeron from Douglas to open the fourth quarter. Collinsville blocked the kick.
The Panthers caught fire in the third quarter with a pair of touchdowns.
Trenton Nash returned the Gaston kick 89-yards for a touchdown and Avila added the kick to cut the lead to 35-21.
With 2:38 left in the game Nicholas Brockitt scored on a 7-yard pass from Keaton Kilgro and Avila made the kick to cut the lead to 35-28.
