Rescue squad burglarized, two charged
Published July 13, 2009
Two DeKalb County men are charged with burglarizing the Ider Rescue Squad building this weekend.
Colton Jacob Gardner, 18 of Fort Payne, and James Derrick Haney, 18, of Pine Ridge, were both charged late Friday night with third-degree burglary in relation to the alleged crime.
DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said the two men were initially arrested earlier in the day in the parking lot of the rescue squad on Highway 117, and charged with public intoxication.
He said after their initial arrest, items allegedly stolen from the rescue squad building and from vehicles parked at a mechanic’s shop next door were found in a vehicle belonging to one of the men. Harris did not disclose the nature of the items taken. He said the matter remains under investigation and additional charges could later be brought against the two men.
Deputy Michael Edmondson said no one was present at either the rescue squad or the mechanic’s shop at the time of the alleged burglaries.
