Police: Pharmacy burglaries similar
Published January 25, 2010
Fort Payne police are investigating a possible connection between the burglary of a pharmacy in north Fort Payne and a similar incident in Arab.
Fort Payne Police Commissioner Ron Ogletree said investigators with his department continue to look for suspects in a burglary reported at C & H Drugs in north Fort Payne last week. The burglary happened early in the morning, while the pharmacy was closed – burglars made away with more than 4,400 Hydrocodone pills and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Ogletree said investigators now believe a man who earlier burglarized an Arab pharmacy may have also been involved in the Fort Payne burglary. On Jan. 12, a man broke the front window of the Arab pharmacy, also closed at the time of the incident, went inside and took a bottle of Lortab pills. The burglary in Fort Payne took place a few days later, on Jan. 19.
“We’re talking back and forth with Arab officials,” Ogletree said Monday. “There could be a connection. There are some similarities between the vehicle and the method of entry.”
The Arab burglary was caught on videotape and the suspect is described as a “skinny, white male, possibly in his mid-20s.” Arab authorities said it’s thought he may have been driving a white, early 90s model Nissan Maxima.
Fort Payne Police Investigator David Davis said witnesses here reported seeing a “small, light-colored car” in the area at the time of the C & H burglary, possibly with as many as three people inside.
Davis asked that anyone with information to call 845-1414.
