DIXIE YOUTH ROUNDUP: Fort Payne wins

Fort Payne’s 7-8-year-old baseball all-stars rallied from an early deficit to blow past Cherokee Independent 16-8 in an elimination game Monday during the Dixie Youth District 8 Tournament at Centre.

The win advanced Fort Payne to another Pool B elimination game late Tuesday against Boaz.

Fort Payne fell behind 4-0 in the first inning but managed to outscore Cherokee 16-4 over the last five, including a seven-run fifth.

Levee Hall led Fort Payne with a home run and a single, while Carson Burt added a triple and a single. Zach Ridgeway and Brevan George both had a double and two singles, while Michael Gullage, Andrew Adams and Jake Newton all finished with a double and a single.

The winners of Pool A and Pool B will play a best-of-three series to determine the tournament championship later this week.

Pool A
Glencoe 15,
Sylvania 3

Glencoe sealed its victory with seven runs in the fifth.

Harrison Stone and Kris Shavers both closed 2-for-2 for Sylvania, and Fisher Goza doubled and drove in two runs.

Sylvania was scheduled to face the Mountaineers in an elimination game late Tuesday.

Mountaineer 16,
Collinsville 1

Collinsville coach Shawn Barkley said Mason McKinney, Carmen Barkley (RBI-triple) and T.J. Osborn hit well for his squad in the elimination game. The coach said Pedro Cuellar played well defensively in the outfield.

Jacob Jones had two triples for Collinsville in a victory over Cherokee American on Friday.

Rainsville 19.
Crossville 15

Noah Bell homered and drove in five runs for Rainsville in the elimination game, and Tyler Swanson added two homers and three RBIs.

Jackson Hosch had four RBIs for Rainsville, and Jordan Wooten contributed three. Ethan Clark, Hayden Bell, Caden Millican and Andrew McLaughlin had one hit apiece.

Rainsville advanced to face Glencoe late Tuesday.

Gabe Gardner (two RBIs), David Chapman (two RBIs), Trenton Bryant (RBI) and Judd Smith (RBI) had three hits apiece for Crossville.

Levi Croft finished with two hits and two RBIs. Austin Garrison, Jesse Pursell, Drew Peppers and Hunter Haston all closed with two hits and one RBI. Harley Hicks, Jacob Chamblee and Cameron Adkins all contributed one hit and one RBI.

Saturday
Rainsville 15,
Cherokee American 10

Swanson and Millican drove in three runs apiece in the elimination game, while Noah Bell, Ethan Black and Jordan Wooten all closed with two. Jackson Sarrett, Hosch and Noah Mince had one RBI apiece.

Friday
Glencoe 13,
Rainsville 11

Sarrett drove in three runs in the first-round match-up, and Millican and Wooten added two apiece. Swanson, Clark, Black and Mince all drove in one.
