Tennis roundup: FPHS squads prevail

The Fort Payne boys won five of six singles matches and defeated visiting Sylvania 7-2 in high school tennis Thursday.
Ace Quizon (10-3 at No. 2), Gerrardo Carrillo (10-1 at No. 3), Jerad Watson (10-4 at No. 4), Reed Whittaker (10-8 at No. 5) and Jake White (10-4 at No. 6) won singles matches for the Wildcats.
Donovan Dalton prevailed 10-8 at No. 1 for Sylvania. He and Ridge Roden won the No. 1 doubles match 10-7.
White and Watson won 10-5 at No. 2 for the Cats, and Carrillo and Whitaker took the No. 3 match 10-4.
GIRLS: The Lady Cats downed the Lady Rams 6-3 at Fort Payne.
Ashley Evans (8-2 at No. 1), Chastity Johnson (opponent withdrew down 5-1 at No. 2), Maria Rocha-Guzman (8-6 at No. 3) and Anna Rocha (8-1 at No. 4) won singles matches for Fort Payne.
Petyon Silvers took the No. 5 match 8-0 for Sylvania, and teammate Madison Silvers captured the No. 6 match 8-8 (8-6).
Evans and Johnson prevailed 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Rocha and Rocha-Guzman won 8-0 at No. 2. Peyton Silvers and Madison Silvers claimed the No. 3 match 8-3.
PLAINVIEW: The Plainview girls downed Scottsboro 7-2 at Northeast Alabama Community College.
Alex Poole (10-6 at No. 1), Katie McCreless (10-6 at No. 2), Madison Johnson (10-2 at No. 3), Taylor Pack (10-5 at No. 4) and Cassidy Hood (10-1 at No. 6) picked up singles wins for the Lady Bears.
Poole and McCreless took the No. 1 doubles match 10-8, and Johnson and Pack won 10-5 at No. 2. |
