FPHS girls win

Ashley Evans and Chastity Johnson picked up singles wins Tuesday as Fort Payne downed host Douglas 5-1 in a rain-shortened girls’ high school tennis match.

Evans prevailed 10-1 at No. 1, and Johnson took the No. 4 match 10-4.

Fort Payne (1-2) swept the doubles.

Evans and Johnson captured a 10-0 win at No. 1, while Ana Rocha and Maria Rocha won 10-6 at No. 2.

Tonya Gentry and Melissa Bruecagr picked up a 10-4 victory at No. 3.

Fort Payne boys 3, Douglas 3

At Douglas, Fort Payne (1-1-1) played Douglas to a 3-all tie.

Fort Payne’s Reed Whittaker won 8-4 at No. 5 singles, and Jake White prevailed 8-5 at No. 6.

Gerrardo Carrillo and Whitaker took the No. 3 doubles match 10-3.

Monday

Plainview girls 8, Douglas 1

At Douglas, Alex Poole (10-0 at No. 1), Katie McCreless (10-3 at No. 2), Madison Johnson (10-8 at No. 3, Taylor Pack (10-2 at No. 4), Casey Miller (10-2 at No. 5) and Cassidy Hood (10-2 at No. 6) picked up singles wins for Plainview.

Poole and McCreless took the No. 1 doubles match 10-1. Miller and Hood won 10-1 at No. 3.

Douglas boys 6, Plainview 3

At Douglas, Jacob Malone captured a 10-6 victory at No. 3 singles for Plainview.

Malone and Cole Wagner won 10-10 (7-4) at No. 2 doubles. Jordan Dover and Nathan Pierson prevailed 10-2 at No. 3.
