Soldier makes it just in time

Staff Sgt. Drew Hamilton boarded a plane hoping to make it home in time for the birth of his third child.
Hamilton, of Fyffe, is with the 1343rd Chemical Co. currently stationed on the Kuwait border with Iraq.
Linda Hamilton drove to Birmingham to pick her husband up Monday.
As they lay down for the night, her water broke. Their son, Elijah, was born Tuesday.
“He got home just in time,” Linda Hamilton said.
Drew Hamilton said he wasn’t so sure he was going to make it.
“The doctor wasn’t sure that she would make it until I got home,” Drew Hamilton said. “She stayed off of her feet and wasn’t active to try and make sure I would get home.”
Drew Hamilton will be home for two weeks and more importantly, will get to spend Thanksgiving with his family.
“The kids, Andrew, 6, and Zoe, 3, are really excited and we are just so happy he’s home for the holiday,” Linda Hamilton said.
Drew Hamilton said he won’t be ready to leave his newborn son and the rest of the family, but deployment is a little better because he gets to communicate with them on a regular basis.
“This deployment has been a lot better because we get to talk a lot more and that makes it easier,” Drew Hamilton said. “I get to see them via video chat.”
This is Hamilton’s second deployment after serving a tour in Afghanistan in 2000.
