Rainsville hoping for library grant

Published November 3, 2009

Chairman of the Rainsville Library Board Paul Tumlin hopes to receive grant money to spruce up the library.

Tumlin spoke before the Rainsville City Council Monday asking it to approve a resolution, which asks for almost $15,000 in grant money.

“We usually receive grant money each year from the Alabama Public Library System,” Tumlin said. “We weren’t sure if we would this year, but we received a letter telling us to fill out the application for minor projects.”

Tumlin chose four projects for which the money would be spent.

“We want to put a sealant along the inside walls of the basement,” Tumlin said. “We also would like to extend the sidewalk down the side of the building and around to the back door, install fluorescent lights and more wall sockets and replace the front doors.”

Tumlin said the total for the projects would cost about $14,800.

Tumlin said the library should be notified sometime during November about whether it received the grant.

The council also:

• bought a battery back-up system for the annex for $458.33.

• bought lights for a brush truck for $100.

• bought a surplus truck for $9,400.
