Free weather radios coming to Kilpatrick
Published January 21, 2009
Free weather radios will be given out Monday at 5 p.m. at the Kilpatrick Volunteer Fire Department.
State Sen. Lowell Barron, D-Fyffe, secured the funds for the radios. DeKalb Commissioner Ed Nix and DeKalb Emergency Management Agency representatives will join Barron in handing out the radios.
“I believe these weather radios can help save lives in Northeast Alabama,” Barron said. “They will provide early warning for those who most need to prepare for bad weather, especially the elderly or those who live in mobile homes.”
Recipients must complete a form verifying they are on a fixed income and/or live in a mobile home. One weather radio will be available per family on a first-come, first-serve basis.
“This is a worthwhile program that can help Kilpatrick residents protect their families in times of severe weather,” Barron said. “I encourage all of those who are eligible to come out on Monday and take advantage of this opportunity.”
