Northeast adds Web cam to campus
Published March 8, 2010
Want to see in real time what is going on at Northeast Alabama Community College? Want to see what the weather is like at the college? Or give a wave to friends or relatives somewhere thousands of miles away?
Well, that can be done now with Northeast Alabama Community College’s latest technological addition – a Web camera that is focused on the NACC quadrangle at the college’s student center.
This Web cam provides live images of the quadrangle area of campus 24 hours per day. College officials have labeled this as the “Mustang Cam” in honor of the schools long-time symbol and mascot.
“Web cams are growing in popularity,” said David Campbell, Northeast president. “After watching some real time broadcasts from throughout the world, we began thinking why not provide the same service here at Northeast?
“After checking into what was involved in bringing a Web cam to campus, we found that we could install one at a minimal cost. With all the technology we have on campus, our infrastructure already was in place. So the Mustang Cam is now in operation.”
He said students, staff or the public could access the Web cam by going to the Northeast Web page at nacc.edu and clicking on the link “Mustang Cam.”
Campbell said, with this addition, Northeast becomes one of the few community colleges in the Southeast with Web cam service. He said it’s appropriate, since the college is noted for its facilities and services involving educational technology.
