The Children’s Place ready to hire soon
Published February 2, 2009
On the heels of its recent announcement that it is bringing its e-commerce business to Fort Payne, The Children’s Place is now ready to begin accepting applications for the operation.
The company expects to add about 250 new jobs in the Fort Payne distribution center to manage the fulfillment operations. Human Resources Manager Ricky Farmer said The Children’s Place would accept applications immediately for its new e-commerce operation. The operation is expected to begin in Fort Payne in early June.
“We’ll be accepting applications at the Fort Payne Career Center for those interested in being considered for a position with the operation,” Farmer said.
Farmer said there would be openings primarily for pickers and packers, and other support personnel.
“We’ll also have other positions, which we will fill as needed,” he said. “We will collect applications at the Career Center during the month of February and will begin scheduling interviews in March.”
Farmer said The Children’s Place would partner with the Alabama Industrial Development Training program to provide training for selected applicants.
“The AIDT will be conducting some training in April,” he said. “They will send out invitations to applicants who pass through the initial interview screening. Those applicants will then participate in a series of training exercises on their own time for evaluation purposes, basically an extension of their first interview. Then we’ll be making our selections for hiring.”
Farmer said the company will consider candidates for full-time, part-time and seasonal employment. At this time, several shift plans are being considered for the staffing of the e-commerce operation, which will be housed under the same roof as its current retail distribution operation.
Those possible shift plans will include both day-shift and night-shift hours, as well as weekend days and nights.
The Children’s Place Retail Stores, Inc. is a specialty retailer of children’s merchandise. The company designs, contracts to manufacture and sells merchandise. As of Jan. 3, the company owned and operated 921 The Children’s Place stores and online store at childrensplace.com. The retail stores are serviced by four U.S. distribution centers, and Fort Payne is the largest.
