County hires computer head
Published December 8, 2009
The DeKalb County Commission decided on a new IT coordinator in Tuesday’s regular meeting.
County Administrator Matt Sharp recommended the commission hire Marc Nichols to replace former IT Coordinator Jacob Heard, who resigned from the position about a month ago.
The opening began with about 25 applicants, which were eventually narrowed to four.
“I think Marc will be excellent for the position,” Sharp said.
Sharp said Nichols’ main duty will be to maintain the county computer systems.
“He will also maintain the telephones and any other technical areas,” Sharp said.
The commission also:
• accepted The Highlands 1st and 2nd subdivisions into the county road system.
• appointed Patty Pope, Randy Carson, Bertie Adams, Michael Leath and Sam Phillips to the DeKalb Regional Medical Center Board.
• approved travel and training for the Sheriff’s Department to send two deputies to a Taser training course in Georgia.
• tabled a request by the Sheriff’s Department to buy a 15-passenger van for the purpose of checking on insurance rates.
