AUBURN — A limited number of Auburn football season tickets and mini-season tickets are currently on sale to the general public.

PERSON: Auburn’s all-time leading scorer, Chuck Person, won the 2010 NBA championship as a Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Thursday.

The Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics and fellow Tiger Marquis Daniels 83-79 in Game 7 at the Staples Center. It is the first NBA title for any Auburn player and Person’s first in his 20 years in the NBA as a player, assistant coach and executive.

“I am so happy for the players and all of their hard work throughout this season,” Person said. “We had a target on us all season long as defending champions, and the guys took it to another level. This was a very hard-fought seven-game series, and the Celtics gave us everything they had.

“It is a wonderful feeling being a part of such a world class organization with the Lakers, and this was a tremendous thrill. It is definitely special being a part of my first NBA championship.”

Daniels did not play in Game 7 for the Celtics. He was coming back from a concussion but dressed out for the game.

This was Daniels’ second NBA Finals appearance. He was a member of the Dallas Mavericks when they fell to the Miami Heat in 2006.

FACILITY: Auburn will build a $16 million indoor practice facility for the football team and other sports.

The university's Board of Trustees Friday approved plans that include a 100-yard field and will allow the football, baseball, softball, soccer and track teams to practice indoors during bad weather.

Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs said the university plans to raise private funds to pay for the entire 92,000-square-foot building. Football coach Gene Chizik called it "a huge step forward for our football facilities."

It will be adjacent to the current football practice fields behind the athletic complex. The athletic department plans to continue using the current fieldhouse after the new building is finished.
