Published March 23, 2010
Staff Reports
Ryan Tramel shot a 2-over par 74 on Monday and led the Fyffe High School boys to a fifth-place finish in the Class 1A-3A division of the Hanceville Invitational at Cullman Municipal Golf Course.
Holly Pond won the 15-team tournament with a score of 320. Good Hope was second at 324, followed by Danville at 329. Fyffe shot 336.
Players dealt with rain throughout much of the day.
“I thought we did a great job considering the conditions,” Red Devils coach Scott Timmons said. “I thought they all showed a lot of mental toughness. Maybe we can use the confidence we gained to give us a boost throughout the season.”
Tramel made the all-tournament team.
Andrew Durham closed at 85 for the Red Devils, and Ethan Moses finished at 86. Cody Hurley rounded out the Fyffe top four with a 91.
LADY DEVILS: The Fyffe girls also put together a good showing in the Hanceville event, tying Guntersville for third with a 335.
Cullman shot 302 to claim the championship. Brewer took runner-up honors with a 325.
Fyffe’s Tiffany Simpson shot a 95 and made the all-tournament team.
“The girls played well despite the very harsh … conditions,” Fyffe coach Tony Bell said. “We played the afternoon session … and finished right at dark. It rained on them the whole time, and I was real proud of them for fighting through it.”
Emma Green finished at 112 for Fyffe, and Caden Crosby closed at 128.
