Suspect charged in burglaries

Published November 23, 2009

A Grove Oak man was charged in connection with several burglaries in the Fyffe area during the past several weeks.

James Ricahrd Himber, 31, of Grove Oak, was charged with nine counts of third-degree burglary.

Sheriff Jimmy Harris said Himber is suspected in a number of burglaries that took place Nov. 16-18.

Harris said on Nov. 16, Himber allegedly forced entry into a home on County Road 18 and caused property damage to a fence. On Nov. 17, Himber allegedly took computers, Mary Kay cosmetics, boxes of clothes and miscellaneous household goods from a home on County Road 1959. On Nov. 18, Himber allegedly took VCRs, a microwave, firebricks, clothes and other household items from another home on County Road 1959.

Harris said residents reported seeing a green Ford Taurus at most of the burglarized homes. He said Deputy Van Douglas spotted a green Taurus matching the description of the one seen at the crime scenes and pulled it over last week.

Douglas found Himber to be driving the vehicle. Harris said Himber gave Douglas permission to search the car, and Douglas found items matching those reported taken during the burglaries.

Harris said a background check revealed Himber to be wanted on an outstanding warrant for harassing communications from Guntersville. He said Himber was initially arrested on the warrant and further investigation led to the burglary charges being brought.

A passenger in the vehicle, Joshua Eugene Burnham, was arrested and charged with one count of third-degree receiving stolen property.

Harris said about $10,425 in property related to the burglaries was recovered and returned to the rightful owners.
