Mentone to showcase homes, art

Art and beautiful homes are on the map as the Mentone Area Arts Council prepares for its biggest annual event.
The MAAC’s Artist’s Gallery and Home Tour will kick off on Oct. 31 and includes an array of homes and art.
MAAC Board Member Harry Ohme said the event is important to Mentone.
“The main reason we do this is to display the talent of local artists, and by adding the home tour, we can show people what type of home they could have here in Mentone,” Ohme said.
Several artists and homeowners are on the list this year including Elaine Gauldin, Frank and Betty Mason, Neal and Melinda Whitt, Miracle Pottery and Chuck Peters.
“We are grateful to all of those who are generous enough to open their homes for people to tour,” Ohme said. “Artists will be at each of the homes on the tour and their works will be available for purchase.”
The headquarters for the event will be at the Mentone Fire Hall.
A silent auction, featuring gifts such as a morning deer hunt, an hour massage and a canoe trip down Little River, will be going on at the fire hall.
“Items will be on display on Saturday and Sunday,” Ohme said. “The silent auction will end at 4 p.m. on Sunday.”
Maps for the tour will be available at the fire hall. Hours for the tour are Oct. 31 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Nov. 1 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
There is no charge to take the tour and everyone will be required to register at the fire hall.
“We are excited about the event,” Ohme said. “We hope to continue the home tour with the artist tour every year.”
