Domestic violence call turns scary
Published September 24, 2009
Fort Payne police arrested a man early Thursday morning after he allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend and threatened violence against her and officers with a gun that apparently didn’t exist.
Seth Adam Burt, 30 of Leesburg, was charged with second-degree domestic violence.
Fort Payne Police Commissioner Ron Ogletree said officers Josh Blalock and David Smith were called to a home at 4104 Gault Ave., S., to investigate possible domestic violence. While en route, Ogletree said the officers received word that an intruder, later identified as Burt, allegedly had kicked in the front door of the home and entered.
When the officers arrived and approached the entrance, Burt opened the door, immediately slammed it shut and then yelled, “gun, gun, gun,” Ogletree said.
He said Blalock drew his weapon, kicked in the door, and saw that Burt was holding the resident, Brandi Haire, by the back of her neck, and she was screaming for Burt to let her go.
Ogletree said Blalock ordered Burt to release Haire and get on the floor, which he did. Officers then took him into custody without further incident.
Ogletree said Burt did not have a gun. He said Blaire was taken by ambulance to DeKalb Regional Medical Center, where she was treated and released. Ogletree said Burt also allegedly caused $3,600 worth of damage to Haire’s property.
