Collinsville wraps up season with win
Published October 30, 2009
FLORALA — Collinsville’s Kenny Orr rushed for 122 yards on seven carries, including a 36-yard touchdown, to help lead the Panthers to a 35-7 win over Florala on Friday night in the final game for both teams.
Collinsville coach Alan Beckett expressed thanks to Floala coach Stan Gooden and the coaching staff for allowing the Panthers to have a “bowl-game-like experience.”
“It’s been a fun trip,” he said. “Obviously we would have liked to have been in the playoffs, but this was a fun way to end the year.”
Collinsville’s Tray Reed was 7-of-11 for 106 passing yards, including two touchdowns to Tyler Tidmore.
The first came with 8:11 left in the first on a 14-yard pass. The second was a 9-yard pass with 2:30 left in the second.
In between, Panthers running back Kenny Orr ran one in from 36 yards out with 2:30 left in the second.
Justin Irvine had five carries for 81 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown with 2:31 left in the first.
Jesse Chandler scored on a 5-yard run with 4:22 left in the third quarter to give the Panthers a 35-0 lead, their largest of the night.
Florala’s Zach Fleming scored the Wildcats lone touchdown of the night on a 5-yard run late in the fourth.
“I thought we played well, but in the second half, I thought we played a little sloppy,” Beckett said. “Although we are devastated to not make the playoffs, it was a good sendoff for our seniors. It was a positive note to end the season on.”
