Stimulus Money Helps Collinsville Progress

Published July 1, 2009

Like the federal stimulus program or not, it is paying off for at least one community in DeKalb County.

News came earlier this week the small south DeKalb town could receive $500,000 in federal stimulus money to improve sewer services for the majority of the town. We know sewer upgrades do not always grab the top headlines, but few things are as important to the growth and attractiveness of a community.

Modern sewer lines enable a community to expand its housing options. It also removes a significant burden in attracting new residents.

Most importantly, though, the upgrades should help clear a hurdle in the competition to attract new industry. Small towns are often the ones in desperate need of new jobs, yet they are often held back with serious infrastructure concerns. This new money should help Collinsville answer at least one of those concerns.

This money, we are confident, will allow Collinsville to continue on the path of progress.
