DIXIE YOUTH ROUNDUP: Fort Payne eliminated

Published July 1, 2009

A late rally wasn’t enough to push Fort Payne’s 7-8-year-old baseball all-stars past Boaz Tuesday night in an elimination game at the Dixie Youth District 8 Tournament at Centre.

After falling behind early, Fort Payne managed to pull within one at 7-6 in the fifth inning, but that was as close as it would get as Boaz pulled away for a 12-6 victory.

With the win, Boaz advanced the Pool B finals, which began late Wednesday. The Pool A winner will meet the Pool B winner in a best-of-three series for the championship later this week.

Samuel Hotalen homered, while Carson Burt laced a triple and a single to lead Fort Payne. Brevan George and Levee Hall both doubled, while Andrew Adams, Jonah Hale, Zach Ridgeway, Myles Underwood and Michael Gullage all finished with two singles.

Fort Payne finished 2-2 in the tournament.
