Fyffe, Ider lead all-county team

Ider and Fyffe led the way with six first-team selections apiece as coaches in the DeKalb County school system gathered to select their 2009 all-county football squad.
Fyffe running back Taylor Thrash was voted offensive MVP. He ran for 1,295 yards and 16 touchdowns this season for a Red Devils squad that finished 8-3 and claimed a share of the Class 2A, Region 6 championship.
Plainview linebacker Hunter Wright was chosen the defensive MVP. He finished with 113 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and one sack for a Bears team that closed 6-5 and advanced to the playoffs for the 21st straight year.
Sylvania had five first-team selections. Collinsville and Plainview had four apiece, followed by Crossville and Geraldine with three. Valley Head had one.
The all-county quarterbacks were Fyffe’s Jesse Townsel and Crossville’s Nick Davis. The all-county running backs were Plainview’s Will Ingle and Jordan Fee, Geraldine’s Ty Rooks, Ider’s Teague Whitaker and Fyffe’s Jesse Westbrook.
Valley Head’s Greg Blansit, Collinsville’s Sharrard Crawley and Crossville’s John Williamson received all-county nods at wide receiver.
The all-county offensive line included Collinsville’s Ryan Chamblee, Sylvania’s J.J. Burke, Ider’s Casey Gaddis, Fyffe’s John Clem and Geraldine’s Michael Sheridan.
Crossville’s Colton Mayes was the all-county offensive athlete.
Collinsville’s Justin Irvine, Sylvania’s Tyler Nappier, Ider’s Dakota Cameron, Plainview’s Matt Stephens and Geraldine’s Carlos Benitez made up the all-county defensive line.
The all-county linebackers were Sylvania’s Devin Davis and Preston Poe along with Ider’s T.J. Taylor and Dylon Overdear.
Sylvania’s Mason Akins, Ider’s Mark Young and Fyffe’s Brandon Williamson were voted to the all-county secondary.
Fyffe’s Cody Hurley was selected the all-county place-kicker, while Collinsville’s Kenny Orr got the nod at punter.

Fyffe: Joseph Harris, Tyler Wellington, Dillon Strange.
Geraldine: Anthony Wright, Brad Parris, Matt Bouldin, Reggie Barrett, Dustyn Cooper.
Ider: Derrick Blevins, Beau Dobbins, Colton Dunn, Dakota Jackson.
Plainview: Tyler Dickerson, Jacob Crowell, Trey Haymon, Russ McFall, Dillon Hurt, Dakota Dawson, Jacob Craig, Jacob Waller, Bryar Buchanan, Clint Whiteside.
Sylvania: Zach King, Dakota Patterson, Jesse Bryant.
Valley Head: Zack Dean, Ethan Crider, Thomas McKinney, Jerry Bradbury.
