Fire destroys home

Published January 14, 2010

An early morning trailer fire in Hammondville Thursday caused no injures, but left a local family homeless.

Craig Hill, fire chief for the Hammondville Volunteer Fire Department, said firefighters were called to battle a blaze at a trailer at 1204 County Road 1000 about 5:15 a.m. He said firefighters from his department, as well as fire departments in Valley Head, Mentone and the Blake community, fought the fire for about three hours but were unable to save the trailer. He said the cause of the fire is unknown.

Linda Clark, with the DeKalb County chapter of the American Red Cross, said the agency is working to assist Vanessa Macias, who was renting the trailer that burned. Clark said Macias lived there along with two children.
