BREAKING NEWS: Police find missing girl
Published March 3, 2009
Breanna Woodside, the 2-year-old subject of Amber Alerts in three states, was found Tuesday evening unharmed in Mexico.
According to Fort Payne Police Commissioner Ron Ogletree, FBI agents arrested Thomas Miles Woodside on felony warrants from Kentucky near Monterrey, Mexico at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
“We know for a fact that he did cross the border at least once,” Ogletree said.
Ogletree said Woodside’s charges and more information on the case would be released today.
Police in Tennessee found a vehicle used by Woodside, who did not return his 2-year-old daughter to her mother in Kentucky after a non-custodial visit.
Fort Payne Police Commissioner Ron Ogletree said Chattanooga, Tenn. officers found the car parked at America’s Best Value Inn early Tuesday morning, but officers did not find 30-year-old Woodside or his daughter, Breanna.
Ogletree said the infant car seat was removed, but the keys were left in the vehicle. An Amber Alert was issued in Tennessee.
Ogletree said Tennessee police confirmed Woodside and Breanna took a taxi to the bus station on Saturday. He said Woodside told the cab driver they were going to Colorado. He said Woodside left the car seat in the taxi.
Ogletree said Woodside called his mother, Mary Love, at 5:50 a.m. on Tuesday and they talked briefly. He didn’t make known his whereabouts.
“The conversation lasted about two minutes. He said he was fine and she was fine. He sounded very happy. His mother asked him to come home and he hung up on her,” said DeKalb Chief Deputy Mike Edmondson.
Police in Kentucky issued an Amber Alert for the girl after her father failed to return her to the Frankfort Police Department on Friday. Police in Alabama issued an Amber Alert Monday at about 2:15 p.m. after the girl was seen on surveillance tapes at McDonald’s in Fort Payne on Friday.
Ogletree said Woodside met with a classmate, Bobby Clements at the McDonald’s at about 6 p.m. Clements and Woodside graduated from Fort Payne High School in 1998 together. Clements bought both Woodside and Breanna’s meals and gave him $40.
Ogletree said Woodside then stayed overnight at the Econo Lodge in Fort Payne, but there was no sign of Breanna.
Police said Woodside was armed and possibly dangerous due to “suicidal tendencies.”
