I-59 work to affect DeKalb
Published October 26, 2009
The DeKalb County Commission is expected to discuss construction work along Interstate 59 when it meets today in regular session.
The commission isn’t directly involved with the project. In fact, it isn’t even taking place in DeKalb County, but rather in adjacent Etowah County. DeKalb Emergency Management Agency Director Mike Leath is expected to speak to the commission today about the impact planned work could have on DeKalb residents and agencies.
He said the northbound lane of I-59 would soon be closed from the Attalla interchange to mile marker 195, possibly slowing travel for DeKalb residents using that stretch of interstate.
Leath said he plans to speak to the commission today about a request from the Etowah County Commission and various emergency response agencies there for DeKalb EMA to provide assistance in the event an accident were to happen along the closed portion of the highway.
In other business, the commission is expected to:
• discuss releasing funds to install security cameras at the DeKalb County Public Library
