Commissioner involved in wreck

Published November 20, 2009

A DeKalb County commissioner was injured after being involved in a car crash Thursday.

According to state troopers, District 2 Commissioner Ed Nix, 73, was slightly injured in a head-on collision that happened about 4 p.m. on County Road 4 in the Rodentown community.

Nix was treated and released from Marshall Medical Center South in Boaz. Troopers said the driver of the other vehicle wasn’t injured.

“My head was banged up pretty good,” Nix said Friday. “I got a knot on my leg.”

Nix said he underwent a CT scan and X-rays and is recovering nicely.

Administrator Matt Sharp said Nix was driving a county car. A commission spokesperson said Nix was “out and about” on Friday and “doing fine.”

Nix, who retired from the DeKalb County Road Department in 1991, has twice been elected commissioner since his appointment by former Gov. Don Siegelman in March 2001.
