County to add security for schools

Published November 9, 2009

The DeKalb County Commission is expected to approve a $25,000 bid today to buy security cameras for area schools.

County Administrator Matt Sharp said the funds will come through a Homeland Security grant, but the purchase is still subject to bid laws. He said the funds would be routed through the DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency, and the respective schools would be responsible for the cost of installing the cameras, which he said would be divided between city and county schools. He said he’s uncertain how many cameras can be bought using the grant money.

“We’ll go as far as $25,000 will allow us to go,” he said.

In other business today, the commission is expected to open bids for a patrol vehicle for the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and approve the bid process for a new vehicle for the DeKalb County Revenue Commissioner’s office.

The commission meets in regular session today at 10 a.m. at the Activities Building in Fort Payne.
