Kristopher Weemes, M.D. recently joined the medical staff of DeKalb Regional Medical Center (DRMC) as its newest OB/GYN.

Dr. Weemes graduated from Michigan State where he first studied to become a pharmacist. Dr. Weemes found his passion for science and medicine as he volunteered at different pharmacies while in school.

Dr. Weemes said he soon realized how forming human connections with patients was his calling, leading him to pursue a career as a physician.

“Surprisingly, in today’s modern world of medicine, you are taught to treat this and that like we are all the same,” Dr. Weemes said. “In reality, it is much more complex. Being a good doctor consists of treating the whole patient and not just treating one specific disease process.”

Dr. Weemes explained how communicating with his patients enables him to provide the right care plan for each patient.

“One thing I always share with my patients, especially expecting mothers, is that no one knows their body better than they do,” he said. “I communicate with my patients and tell them to never ignore symptoms and to always talk about their concerns. As clinicians, our job is to distinguish between normal and abnormal, so the more information we have, the better we are able to treat our patients.”

Dr. Weemes said his passion as an OB/GYN is derived from being able to provide quality care for families. I am honored to be a part of one of the most joyous times in a woman’s life delivering their child,” he said. “My desire to be passionate for my work comes through watching families grow and caring for generations of patients.”

In addition to joining DRMC, Dr. Weemes has joined the practice of Isbell Medical Group.

Dr. Weemes said being a physician at Isbell Medical Group allows him to treat his patients with the same sense of community and family dynamic DeKalb County is known for.“Never have I been to a place where, right away, I felt that I’ve lived here for years,” Weemes said. “I look forward to bringing that same sense of community connection and quality care to Isbell Medical Group.”

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Weemes to our medical staff, which means the community will continue to have local, convenient access to the specialty services of this OB/GYN,” says Patrick Trammell, CEO at DeKalb Regional Medical Center.
