The City of Henagar held its 37th annual Sand Mountain Potato Festival on Thursday, July 4. The event kicked off at 10 a.m. with a lengthy parade that traveled from Limon's Mexican Restaurant and ended at the city park. The grand marshalls this year were DeKalb County WWII veterans in honor of the 75th anniversary of D-Day that was on June 6, 2019. Several DeKalb County fire stations participated, along with many local businesses and state and local officials. Directly after the parade, an opening ceremony was held at the stage to introduce and honor each veteran that rode in the parade.

The following men were introduced by US Army Retired, Lieutenant Colonel John Walker from the Fort Payne High School ROTC program:

• Tim Colvard, 91 years old, Navy Aircraft Carrier USS Randolph, Seaman 1st Class, Mediterranean, Scotland, England, Italy

• Noah Dobbs, 92 years old, Navy Aircraft Carrier Franklin D. Roosevelt, trained at Great Lakes Illinois stationed in Rhode Island

• Glenn Fowler, 92 years old, Marines - Private, Pacific, Philippines, Japan,

Navy - 2nd Petty Officer, Virginia, Puerto Rico, Atlantic Fleet

• Andrew J. Ivey Jr. (Jack), 95 years old, Army Corporal 489th Quarter Unit, England, France, Germany

• Loyd Ivey, 93 years old, Army Corporal Hawaii

• Rambert Lacy, 93 years old, Navy Seaman 1st Class North Atlantic, Military name: Clarence R. Lacy

• J.T. Moses, 94 years old, Army Corporal Germany, Battle of the Bulge

• Edward Ringer, 95 years old, Army Technician 4th Grade, Combat Engineer, Scofield Banks - Shelby Mississippi

• Rodney Satterfield, 94 years old

Army Private 1st Class Europe

• William Kenneth Clayton, 90 years old, Korean War - US Army Corporal
