The DeKalb Education Retirees Association met Aug. 2 at Kelly’s Kitchen in Rainsville.

Anita Gibson, vice president of the DERA, introduced the guest speaker, Elizabeth Wheatley, who is the executive director of the DeKalb County Children’s Advocacy Center for the program. Elizabeth gave an informative talk using crayon colors to explain the process used to help and protect children in peril. The DeKalb County CAC is a nonprofit organization in Fort Payne that aims to provide “hope and healing” for abused and at-risk children. Any items of funds obtained are used for the children. The October meeting of the DeKalb DERA will be at the Coal & Iron Building in downtown Fort Payne. There will be free flu shots given and members are asked to bring an unwrapped toy in support of the Marine Toys for Tots.
