Two men were arrested for assaulting a Sylvania student Wednesday morning.
DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said the two men had allegedly been smoking marijuana when they walked to the school and confronted and assaulted a 15-year-old male student while he was boarding the bus to the tech school.
Welden said the two individuals fled on foot and were located by a DeKalb County deputy on County Road 121.
According to the press release, one of the offenders was identified as 19-year-old Wesley Ray Baker, and the other assailant was a 16-year-old juvenile. Welden said Baker was homeschooled and the juvenile offender had recently withdrawn from Plainview School.
The two were charged with criminal trespassing, assault third degree, and public intoxication. Baker was also later charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Welden said he and his deputies work to keep the schools and county safe for everyone.
“It’s unfortunate that these two young folks made the decision to attack a student on school grounds,” he said. “I appreciate the cooperation of our deputies, school resource officers and the Sylvania Police Department.
“They worked together and worked quickly to locate these subjects. The better departments work together, the more efficiently we all work for you. God bless.”
