After a near-fatal four-wheeler accident in May 2017, Ethan Blevins, of Valley Head, made a remarkable recovery and lived to celebrate the one-year anniversary of his survival Monday.

Beth McKinney, Ethan’s mother, along with other friends and family members, gathered in Valley Head to celebrate Ethan and the strides he has made over the past year.

McKinney said the event was a “celebration of life.”

“I asked Ethan what he wanted to do for his one-year mark and all he said was that he wanted something small,” she said. “He told me he wanted to do something outside so he could run and play with his friends, so that’s what we did.”

The celebration of life offered food, a photo presentation, games and fellowship, plus a one-year anniversary ambulance ride for Ethan.

The height of the celebration was a release of colorful balloons. Friends and family stood as Ethan counted to three and then released their balloon in honor of his life.

“He’s incredible,” McKinney said. “One year down, a lifetime to go.”
