Freedom Run returns

The Rainsville Freedom Run is June 15 at 8 a.m. 

Rainsville Freedom Run 5k and 10k annual races are set to take place on June 15 at 8 a.m.

Jerry Clifton, Freedom Run Director, said this year marks the 11 year of the Freedom Run.

"Last year we had 920 participants, and we are shooting to break 1000," Clifton said. Clifton encourages people to come out and show support.

"It's very important for our local community to support the race," said Clifton.

"Also, we have many people coming from all over the southeast," Clifton said.

According to Clifton, in the last ten years the race has taken place they have given over $250 thousand to charity.

"Last year we had runners from five counties and eleven different states, so it's important to have local support," said Clifton.

Pre-registration runs from Feb 1 through May 31 at $30 per runner.

Registration after May 31 will be $35, and online registration closes at 10 p.m. on June 13.

“We will have over 100 volunteers working on race day from all over the communities,” Clifton said.

First place winner of the 10K will receive $1000, 2nd place $800, 3rd place $600, 4th place $400 and 5th place $200.

First place winner of the 5K will receive $600, 2nd place $400, 3rd place $300, 4th place $200 and 5th place $100.

According to Clifton, the first 500 registered runners will receive the 11th Anniversary Dry Fit shirt plus a fantastic race bag.
