Saturday the Alabama Shelters and Rescues is hosting a “Brat Fry” at the Fort Payne City Park sponsored by Frosty’s Fosters Animal Rescue of Wisconsin.

This event, which will raise money for Alabama Shelters and Rescues, is set to start at 10 a.m. and is scheduled to last until 2 p.m.

Event Coordinator Judy Gass said this is the first event they have held here, and all proceeds go towards animal needs in DeKalb County.

“We are very excited; this is a community awareness event,” Gass said.

Event organizers invite the public to come and eat some authentic Wisconsin brats and show your support.

The day festivities will feature $5 dog baths, a bake sale, fun, and games.

Fostina Uelmen, owner, and president of Frosty’s Fosters Animal Rescue of Wisconsin said they have been working with DeKalb County shelters for about three and a half years.

“While I am in Wisconsin we pull dogs from mostly DeKalb County and Northern Alabama,” Uelmen said.

According to Uelmen the primary purpose of the event is to raise awareness regarding fostering, spay, and neutering pets as well as getting them out of the kill, no kill or second chance shelters.

Gass said she has been working with Frosty’s Fosters Animal Rescue of Wisconsin for a few years now.

“They come down once a month and take anywhere between 40 to 50 animals out of the shelter and other animals that we foster out,” Gass said.

According to Gass, they find homes for the many pets they take out of state to keep them from getting euthanized.

In the month of June 242 animals were euthanized in DeKalb County alone.

There will be t-shirts for sale as well as educational information and spay/neuter information.

According to Gass, there will be a variety of items Raffle during this event.

Through this fundraiser, event organizers are hoping to get more people in the community involved.

“Animal rescue groups and adoptions cannot keep up the massive number of pets dumped at DCAAC,” officials said.
