The town of Geraldine has announced Geraldine resident Verlon White as its Christmas Parade Grand Marshal.
Geraldine Mayor Chuck Ables said White is well deserving of the recognition. Ables said White has been serving his hometown and county for many years through volunteer work and as a local low enforcement officer.
White currently works at the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, and can be spotted taking groups of inmates around to pick up litter and weed-eat to maintain the appearance of the county’s landscape.
White is also a sports fanatic.
So, when he is not working at the sheriff’s department, he spends his time coaching and working with youth athletes. White said he has been involved with youth sports for nearly 60 years, and has seen many changes in each sport.
White said his favorite sport to play and coach has always been football, and at nearly 80 years old, he is still in charge of the Geraldine youth football program.
Ables encourages everyone to come out Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. to see the Geraldine Christmas Parade and its grand marshal, Verlon White.
