Sign up for Pumpkin Run

The sixth-annual Rainsville Technology, Inc. 5K and fun run also known as The Great Pumpkin Run to benefit the DeKalb County Children’s Advocacy Center is Oct. 20 at RTI, 189 RTI Dr.

Human Resources Administrator Delena Owen said 100 percent of the proceeds go to the local CAC, and last year, The Great Pumpkin Run raised $7,500 for the CAC.

Registration is from 7 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Then, the 5K begins at 8 a.m., and the fun run follows at 9 p.m.

Owen is head of a committee of 15 RTI employees who have come together to plan the event this year.

“This is my first time doing the 5K at RTI,” Owen said. “I’m very excited. This is what I really love to do. I was on the board at the Children’s Advocacy, so it’s something I’m really passionate about.”

Owen said there are about 73 participants already signed up, but she is hoping for many more to sign up to support the CAC.

“We will have race bags for participants with dri-fit-type shirts, and Fleet Feet is sponsoring the race bags,” Owen said. “We have a lot of sponsors this year, probably more platinum sponsors this year than ever.”

There are several door prizes to be given away to participants including, two Alabama-Mississippi State football game tickets and a large TV. Owen said the participants must be present to win.

There will be a costume contest for race participants which will be judged at 7:40 a.m. Owen said RTI encourages participants to dress up; however, it is not required.

The winner of the costume contest receives $50 and a medal. The corporate team plaque is given to the company with the most participants in the race, and medals will be awarded to first through third place finishers in each age of the 14 divisions, including 9 and under. Then, every five years is a different age division until 70 years old. There is a 70 and older division.

Overall winners in first, second and third place for men and women categories receive monetary prizes of $100, $75 and $50, respectively.

The fun run is for ages 12 and under and pre-registration is $10, or race day registration is $15. Fun run participants receive a shirt also.

The entry fee is $30, and online registration is available until Oct. 18 at www.runsignup.com or www.rtial.com or you can register the day of.
