Tuesday the DeKalb County Board of Education approved the AASB dues and the bid for the beverage rights for concessions and vending to Scottsboro Coca-Cola for five years.

The board also approved and discussed the bid for the Geraldine paving project to Wiregrass Construction.

According to DeKalb County Superintendent Jason Barnett, they have a preconstruction meeting on July 8 and are expecting work to start on the July 16.

“They [Wiregrass Construction] do anticipate they’ll be through with the paving before school starts back,” Barnett said.

Barnett said they may possibly have to come back to do some striping after school starts back.

Members of the board also congratulated all employees who will be retiring this month.

The board also:

• accepted the retirement of Dewey DeBoard, Middle School Principal at Crossville Middle School 8/1/19, Paula Nance, software/hardware technician at central office 8/1/19 and Monika Duke, elementary teacher at Geraldine High School 8/1/19.

• approved the volunteer placement of William Norris as volunteer cheerleading coach at Fyffe High School.

The next county board of education meeting will be held on July 30 at 5 p.m.
