The DeKalb County Homemakers met on Jan. 24 at the Crossville Experimental Station.

Present were members from each of the seven clubs throughout DeKalb County.

Jo Ann Stricklin, president of DeKalb HCL called the meeting to order. Carol Barnes, member from Portersville, led the Pledge of Allegiance. Dorothy Simpson from Tenbroeck gave the devotional based on Psalms 91 concerning “God’s Promises.” Minutes of the last meeting were given by County Secretary Jean Hensley of Ider. Minutes were approved and accepted.

Brenda Womack, of Tenbroeck, gave the treasurers report.

In the absence of planned speaker Diane Goins, Joyful Hearts member Lori Wheeler gave a talk on the upcoming event, “Made in DeKalb” to be held in February.

The program will highlight the potential rewards for seeking employment in DeKalb County.

Young people from throughout the county will attend and be given information about the many opportunities available to them. DeKalb HCL members have offered their time to volunteer for the event. We are looking forward to the event. Please join us.

Certificates were given out for our participation in the Main Street Market this past summer and fall.

DeKalb HCL attended weekly events at the market where we demonstrated locally grown food.

We are also participating in the Children’s Advocacy play and dinner again this year.

This is an event that helps those less fortunate in our community and we are happy to be a part of it.

We were happy to welcome several new members throughout the county and look forward to their continued involvement.

Announcements were made concerning our annual Awards Day coming up in February. The County Woman of the Year will also be announced at that time.

Each club turned in their nominees for their Woman of the Year to be entered into the competition. Those nominated were: Crossville - Kris Kilgo; Geraldine-Carol Whatley White; Ider,-Lagayla Downer; Joyful Hearts-Diane Jewell; Lookout Mountain-Phyllis Reagan; Portersville-Pat Fowler and Tenbroeck-Ardell Painter.

We welcome new members and feel sure that you will find it very rewarding to fellowship and serve your community. If you would like to join any of the clubs please call JO ANN STRICKLIN at 256-524-3053 and visit our website at to see all the wonderful things we have accomplished.
