In 1966, on the west coast, a young man named Steve Miller formed a rock band and by the mid-1970s the bands hit singles became the classic rock heard on the radio. A tribute to this man and his band “The Steve Miller Band” will be held by a group of local musicians at the DeKalb Theatre in Fort Payne on June 29.

The title of the tribute is “Keep on Rockin” and is uniquely appropriate since tributes are generally done in honor of a famed musician who has since passed, Steve Miller is still “rockin.”

The group of professional musicians who will present the tribute are Marc Womack on lead guitar, Ryan Keef on second lead guitar and harmonica, David Lusk on rhythm guitar, Chuck Sawyer on bass guitar, Bradford “Scooter” Hilyer on drums, and Jamie Bell on keyboards of various types.

The band will perform mostly the greatest hits of the Steve Miller Band, but die-hard fans will recognize some of the songs that did not hit the top charts as well.

This group of men do not regularly play together as a band, each one or in some cases duo’s are regularly booked to entertain at music venues as separate acts. They have come together to pay homage to someone in their field whom they respect. The members of the band are not strangers to one another, they have had experience working together in the past.

Another thing that makes this show special is there will be no intermission while the band takes a break between sets. Other local talent will take the stage to perform giving patrons an approximate two hours of entertainment. Acoustic songs will be preformed by Stuart Douglas, Jack Dotson, and Paul Shirey.

General admission tickets are $10 and VIP tickets which include front section seating, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages may be purchased for $20. Tickets are available online at eventbrite.com by searching Steve Miller Band Tribute in Fort Payne. Limited tickets are also available at the box office leading up to the event and if not sold out then on the day of and also at Roger’s Music and Pawn at 232 Gault Ave. N.

DeKalb Theatre is located at 306 Gault Ave. N, Fort Payne, AL 35967. Doors will open at 6 p.m. show begins at 7 p.m.
