Great Saturday morning! I hope all of you had a wonderful and safe Memorial Holiday. We enjoyed a lot of good grilled food, homemade ice cream and of course a sweet, cold watermelon. It was a family time for which I am thankful.

Our certified Farmers Market opened last Saturday for the new season. They had fresh, beautiful squash, green beans, tomatoes, onions, kale, leaf lettuce, and delicious baked goods, jelly and fried pies.

The Fort Payne Farmers Market is located on the corner of Fifth and Gault Avenue North. Remember it is a market that is certified through the State Agriculture Department, which means that we meet all the criteria of having approved produce grown on local farms and all the folks who sell baked goods, jelly, etc. have an approved cottage license. Come out each Saturday morning and Monday afternoon to the Fort Payne Farmers Market to support our local farmers and get some healthy, fresh food.

At our last merchant and business breakfast at Fontana’s restaurant, Jack Davidson of Fort Payne Footworks suggested that we invite folks to come for a discovery walk downtown every Saturday at 8:00 a.m. beginning May 25, 2019 the first Farmers Market day this season. We were thrilled to have fourteen people this past Saturday including three visitors from Michigan. Thanks Marc, Dakota and Zach for visiting and joining in our walk.

We meet every Saturday at the corner of Fifth and Gault Avenue North right by the Farmers Market at 8:00 a.m. Join us for a fun group walk to get in some great exercise and at the same time discover places you may not be aware of downtown. It is a great time to visit with friends and make new friends. All are welcome to join us. We hope to see you there.

Fort Payne Main Street and Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce have partnered to bring “Success in Sixty” the first Thursday of each month at the Chamber of Commerce building at 300 Gault Avenue North from 11:30 a.m until 12:30 p.m. On June 6, Joe Grimes of Jacksonville State University Business Development Center will help with budgeting for small businesses. Just call 256-845-2741 to reserve your place. Lunch is provided.
