Rotary hosts John Dersham, president/CEO of DeKalb Tourism

On May 11, Club President David Allgood (right) hosted Mr. John Dersham, President and CEO of DeKalb Tourism.  Mr. Dersham explained that, while many parts of Alabama and the nation suffered a steep tourism decline in 2020 due to COVID, DeKalb County actually experienced a near-record boom. Contributing factors included tourists seeking rural, less densely populated areas such as our DeSoto State Park and Little River Canyon National Preserve. The added tourism additionally benefited local town economies, especially small businesses such as local restaurants, when they needed it most last year. Furthermore, Mr. Dersham, having spent 33 years perfecting his art of photography, shared his three books highlighting our beautiful homeland:  “Fort Payne, Postcard History Series”; “My Alabama: John Dersham Photographs a State”; and Changing Moods - Sixty Years in Black and White.”
