American Legion Post 89 presents Gold Banner

Merle Stokes, sister of Corporal Shannon Dale Biddle, USMC, was presented a Gold Star Banner on Saturday July 18th by American Legion Post 89. Corporal Biddle was from Valley Head.  Corporal Shannon was killed in action in Lebanon during combat. This action was in December 1983.  Cpl. Biddle was a member of G Co, 2nd Bn, 8th Marine Regiment. Among his awards are the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, Combat Action Ribbon and the Purple Heart. Members of the Post present knew Shannon from school. They were honored to be present for this ceremony. The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 89 President Anita MacDermid also presented a Gold Star Pin to Merle Stokes. Pictured are Commander Alan Chambers, Merle Stokes, and Adjutant Mark Abrams.
