Ellis, Lafferty appear at Depot Museum

Fort Payne author Jerry Ellis and his sister, actor Sandra Lafferty, made a public appearance at the Fort Payne Depot Museum on July 25. He read a dramatic passage from his Pulitzer-nominated book, “Walking the Trail, One Man’s Journey Along the Cherokee Trail of Tears”, and briefly discussed his new book, “Breaking Bread with Misfits.” Lafferty performed a short scene from the play “Granny Dollar,” bringing to life the Cherokee forklore heroine who hid in the 1830s to escape the Trail of Tears. The famed local siblings continue to make an impact in the publishing and entertainment industries while making their hometown proud. Ellis said “Walking the Trail” is in development to possibly become a feature film and has been translated into Italian, which he speaks as a part-time resident of Rome, Italy.
