Kenneth Lionel Brown

Born August 9, 1934 to Webb Johnson Brown and Claudia Traylor Brown at Fyffe, Alabama or two miles south of Fyffe. He graduated from Fyffe High School in 1952 and from Jacksonville State Teachers College in 1956 with a major in physical education and minored in history. He taught school at Sylvania 4 years, Plainview 9 years, and driver’s education at Fyffe, Geraldine, Crossville and Collinsville for a total of 15 1⁄2 years.

He was employed at V.I. Prewett & Son for 31 years, 7 months, and 11 days which ended on August 29, 2003. He spent most of the time as Superintendent of the Finishing Department where he enjoyed greatly his time with Dave Bare as his plant manager. He never met anyone with as much compassion for his employees as V.I Prewett, Jr. He also worked for C. D. Igou Grocery Store, State Department of Alabama, Dekalb County Health Department, Vulcraft, and the Alabama Highway Department.

He joined the Alabama National Guard in 1954 at Fort Payne. He resigned his commission as 1s t Lieutenant in September 1961. He was over the Armory at Hammondville when he resigned his commission.

Probably one of the most enjoyable times of his life was being in the Kiwanis Breakfast Club of Fort Payne and he took it very seriously. He served as secretary three times and president for one year. He was also Lieutenant Governor serving over clubs in Attalla, Gadsden Mid-Morning, Gadsden Lunch, Anniston Morning Club, Oxford, Anniston Lunch and Jacksonville Evening Club. He started clubs in Rainsville and Centre. He got to travel many places while involved with the club. Some of those travels led him to Miami, FL; Anaheim, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Toronto, Canada; and Washington, DC.

He was baptized at First Baptist Church of Fyffe on Easter Sunday 1951. He was ordained as a deacon at Chavies Baptist Church. He held positions at First Baptist Church of Fort Payne where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Training Union Director, Sunday School teacher and a member of the sanctuary choir. He was a member of the active deacon board on many occasions from 1969-1989. At his death, he was a member of Fort Payne Christian Center where he loved Pastor Ken and Elaine Hollmer very much.

He leaves his wife, Angela (Rainsville); son, Dale Brown (Asheville, NC); Beth Mince (Dr. Danny) Fort Payne. Grandchildren: Benjamin Brown (Leslie), Grace Buckner (Kaleb), Evan Mince. Great-grandsons, Noah Dean Brown and Everett James Buckner.

He was preceded in death by: Parents: Webb and Claudia Brown

Siblings: Glenn Brown (had one brown eye and one blue eye), Bernice Brown Fricks Gidley, Webb Brown, Jr, Peggy Brown Harris, Charles Brown, Larry Brown, Twin babies born 1927.

Grandson: David Michael Brown

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday May 2, 2019 from the Fort Payne Christian Center. Burial will follow the service in Glenwood Cemetery. Pastor Elaine Homer will be officiating, The Family will receive Friends from 5-8pm on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 from the Fort Payne Christian Center.
