Gloria Jean (Tidmore) Varnes, 84 years old, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 26, 2019.
Jean was born March 3, 1935 in Collinsville, Alabama to John Henderson and Margie Lee (McCurdy) Tidmore.
Jean became very athletic, competing in marathons with her best time of 3 hours and 45 minutes in 1984, completed the New York City Marathon several times along with many other races. Jean had also become a great triathlete until a tragic accident in 1985, which partially paralyzed her and putting her in a wheelchair. Even though she had restrictions, Jean continued to push for adventure and enjoyed life by doing things such a Water Skiing for the Disabled, Swimming with the Dolphins, and many more.
Jean will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her father, John Henderson Tidmore; mother, Margie Lee (McCurdy) Tidmore; and brother, John M. Tidmore.
Jean is survived by her nephew, John M. Tidmore, Jr.; niece, Christ (Tidmore) Scheel; great-nephews, Evan Scheel, Hank Scheel, and Trey Tidmore and cousin, Kathy McCurdy Espe. Jean has a goddaughter, Betsy Leigner and many friends.
There will not be any services held. If you would like to make donations in honor of Jean’s life to either of the below groups as Jean spent a lot of time at these facilities for her rehab.
