Panthers pound Whitesburg 7-0, punch ticket to final 4 in Huntsville

Anthony Lucas was one of two Collinsville players to score two goals in the Panthers' win over Whitesburg Christian in the second round of the 1A-3A playoffs.

Class 1A-3A’s No. 3-ranked Collinsville Panthers are Huntsville bound following their 7-0 second-round blowout of Whitesburg Christian Academy Thursday in the AHSAA state soccer playoffs.

The win lifts Collinsville’s record to 16-6 for the season and punched their ticket to John Hunt Park in Huntsville, where the Panthers will face Altamont in a state semifinals matchup Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

The Panthers’ win over Whitesburg Christian was led by Anthony Lucas and Roberto Diaz, who both netted two goals each.

Alejandro Reyes, Bryan Barrientos and Leo Barrientos all scored one goal each.

Alejandro Reyes earned two assists in the win and Brandon Soltero, Roberto Diaz and Leo Barrientos all had one each.

Luis Reyes and Elias Gomez teamed up to preserve the shutout win in Collinsville’s net.

The 1A-3A All-Region 7 Team was also recently released and featured nine DeKalb County athletes representing Collinsville and Sylvania.
