The Plainview High School girls tennis team opened its 2012 season with an 8-1 victory over Boaz at Northeast Alabama Community College on Thursday.

Casey Miller (8-1 at No. 2), Cassidy Hood (9-9, 7-4 at No. 3), Madison Johnson (8-3 at No. 4), Abigail Hampton (8-3 at No. 5) and Avery Holt (8-0 at No. 6) picked up singles wins for the Lady Bears.

Taylor Pack and Miller took the No. 1 doubles match 8-3. Hood and Johnson won 8-2 at No. 2. Hampton and Holt prevailed 8-0 at No. 3.

PLAINVIEW BOYS: The Bears fell to Boaz 8-1 in their season opener at Northeast. Nathan Pierson picked up the lone Plainview win, prevailing 8-6 at No. 1.

FORT PAYNE GIRLS: The Lady Cats (1-2, 1-2) fell to visiting Arab 8-0 in Class 5A, Section 4 action.

FORT PAYNE BOYS: The Cats (0-2, 0-2) fell to Arab 6-3 at Fort Payne.

Rodolfo Pascual won 8-5 at No. 2 singles for the Cats. Clay Richards took the No. 5 match 8-3, while Enrique Velasguez prevailed 8-2 at No. 6.
